This reminded me of your comment that "there sure are a lot of frogs around there".
There is a retired lady who does some really wonderful iron sculptures and has a fascination w/ frogs. Numerous frogs, tongues out, some catching flies.
Maybe the frog population is what brought that out in her....
Somewhat unrelated, but that's what it brought to mind.
Not entirely unrelated :P I'll have to take pics of all the fish eventually and see if I can find out the story behind some of these things I'm posting! :)
I'm guessing the fish relate to GF because the Red River runs right between Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. The river is big enough that there used to be a paddle boat that cruised up and down the river, hence the paddle wheel at Town Square... Actually the paddle wheel at Town Square might be for a totally different reason, and I might be assuming incorrectly. I really need to learn more about our landmarks in town!
I like to blather on and make assumptions about things... ;) As I was writing it I realized I was making the assumption based on what little knowledge I have... oh well... It sounds like a reasonable explanation...
The fish are by local artist, Adam Kemp. If I remember correctly, the project started as an artist-in-residence program with the Grand Forks Elementary schools. They've been installed in various places around the city at different times. Most notably at the ND Museum of Art on the UND campus and in the park where they are currently located.
These fish are really great! Seems a bit strange for an inland locale.
