You ever have one of those waking dreams? The kind where something happens in your dream that causes you to become half awake and incorporate your surroundings into your dream. It's not lucid dreaming, since you have no control until you have fully awaken. I have been known to ask my husband utterly bizarre questions in this state. Often getting a bit indignant when he doesn't answer me or seem to know what on earth I'm talking about; that is until I'm fully awake. I had one of those last night. In a half-awake state I asked him several times how we were going to get out. Well in the dream I had somehow become trapped in a room, and of course in reaching in front of me to escape in my dream I encountered the headboard of my bed. Confused and perhaps a bit scared I did what any reasonable person would do, I turned to my darling (who wasn't in my dream and magically appeared) how we were going to get out. Eventually during our conversation which probably lasted about a minute, I woke up enough to realize that my surroundings were my bedroom and I was in fact not trapped. I stated as much and he promptly went back to sleep. Realistically, these are probably usually nightmares, because it always seems that something scares me or startles me into becoming half-awake. However, I can distinctly think of one where I woke up asking my hubby where we were going to keep the deer, and I can't for the life of me imagine that being a nightmare.
Oh well, since I'm fairly awake and it's the weekend after Epiphany, I figured I should go ahead and get out of bed and start gathering the Christmas decor from around the house so I can pack it away. Epiphany is the day that the Wise Men came and marks the end of Christmas in our household. Growing up the decorations went up on Christmas Eve and came down on January 6th, for my hubby they went up the weekend after Thanksgiving and came down the day after Christmas (or thereabouts). So, we melded the two a bit and put them up the weekend after Thanksgiving, but don't take them down until the weekend after Epiphany. It makes for a long Christmas season, good thing it's my favorite time of year! January 5th was Twelfth Night, perhaps when I have children I'll think of something special to mark the occasion. Right now, it simply marks the day that the Christmas decor comes down for me traditionally and the magic of winter and Christmas turns into the long wait for Spring.
So, I'm starting my morning with Peppermint Coffee and Alison Krauss and feeling very serene and excited at the same time.
When do you put your decorations up? When do you take them down? Have you ever had a "waking dream" or am I crazy? Well, maybe you shouldn't answer that last one.
Yes, I have waking dreams, too. These days, I don't remember my dreams at all. I used to keep a dream journal and would write down the tiniest details. I don't know why I stopped writing in it.
ReplyDeleteOoooh, peppermint coffee, that sounds yummy. What are your plans for this weekend besides packing away Christmas stuff? Do you and Paul usually go out on the weekends?
I think I'm going to finish up my website once and for all. Then, I might start on a family photo site, and then finish cleaning. I've been putting off the laundry for too long now. My husband and kids are starting to complain that they don't have any clean socks or underwear. lol
P.S. I'm just going to start replying to your posts at my blog and you can do the same. I mean, I check your blog at least every other day anyway. It might be easier for us this way. You think? O_o
I've never kept a dream journal, who knows maybe it would help. I don't usually remember anything about my dreams, unless they are ones I wake from halfway through.
ReplyDeleteI spent this weekend gathering the Christmas stuff from around the house to put away, baking, cleaning, and watching my nieces. We usually go to hockey on weekends when the Sioux play at home.
I'm lucky, my hubby usually runs the laundry through. Actually, I should say I'm spoiled. So, did you get all yours done?
I really need to go through and take one room at a time and do a deep clean. Since we moved in the summer, I didn't do it in the fall because it really didn't need it. However, of course now it does. If I do it now though, it won't need it this spring, so I'll delay to the summer. Or I could do it now and then do it again in the summer even if it isn't quite ready to get myself on that schedule... Ah dilemmas, hmmmm... I'll call a spade, a spade and admit that I'm procrastinating...
Checking things in our respective blogs makes perfect sense since we're checking them as often.
Oh, baking, yummy. What do you make? Cookies? Cakes? Pies?
ReplyDeleteI can't bake. I've tried, many, many times. I'm one of those free-spirited chefs who just kind of throws ingredients in and doesn't measure. It works really well with regular meals, but baking is precise so I end up with a disaster.
I resigned from baking (or trying to bake) seven Christmases ago when I baked dessert for everyone. All my family did for two days was avoid eating it. LOL
So, my husband does all of the baking and he's really good! He baked some homemade cookies for Bailey's kindergarden class and they were a hit!
Your hubby does laundry for you? I am so jealous. lol What else does he do? Can I hire him? hehe
You know, you're so funny and you remind me of myself in a lot of ways.

heh heh :)
I made cookies and banana bread. Though I'll have to make more banana bread tonight as well, before the bananas go bad.
ReplyDeleteI cook that way too... a dump cook... dump in random things that sounds good in random amounts and Voila... complete and utter yumminess... But I do follow recipes as well when making a specific dish, like garlic lime chicken... Though I definitely live by the modify at will principle. I try to make a recipe as-is at least once, but after that any ingredient or amount is fair game.
Also, when in the mood for dump desserts, I go for a bread pudding, where precise amounts of anything doesn't really matter.
Yup, hubby does laundry and he loads the dishwasher, vacuums and washes the bathroom floors. I do the handwash (dishes or laundry), dusting, cooking (unless it's grilling), etc... He's very helpful around the house. However, given that we both work approx 45-50 hours per week, I would expect him to help out as much. He does just about anything, but he definitely has his strengths and his weaknesses. I'm a very lucky woman though.
You know, you're so funny and you remind me of myself in a lot of ways.
Yeah I keep thinking that as I read your posts too :P
I'm not much of a pastry or baked goods person (eating it, that is). But banana bread....yummmmmm. *drools* I like banana bread with chocolate chips in it.

Oh yes, same here.
I really can't complain about Jeff -- I just do it for fun. It's only fair that I do the bulk of the housework now that I'm home all day without the kids. I'm still trying to find a comfortable balance between writing and housework.
When we both worked, he was very helpful. He did most of the laundry, all of the vacuuming, the bathrooms sometimes, and all of the yard work.
I can tell that you and Paul have a very good and loving relationship. I always interpreted Jeff's helpfulness around the house as his way of expressing his love and support. What do you think?
P.S. Is it just me or does it seem that some days the word verification codes are super long?
Yes, we have a great relationship. I really couldn't ask for more...
ReplyDeleteOk, now I'll have to make banana bread with chocolate chips... :P
Sometimes they are a veritable novel, and others they are pretty short. I figure it depends on how moody the software is at the time. Maybe instead of typing in the correct letters, people were typing in swear words, so it became irritable and decided to get revenge. This delusion brought to you by the letter R.
