Homemaking: Songs for Cleaning

What's the Homemaking September ShapeUp! all about?

I added a playlist of upbeat songs to the playlist in my side bar. Tamy contributed Flashdance and Main Event, however I couldn't find Main Event available online. However, this isn't all about me! So, do you have any additional suggestions? I want any and all suggestions! I'll add songs that most people would know to the playlist, if I can find them online.

Now, here's the thing, I LOVE finding new music, and this playlist isn't my typical cleaning playlist. My actual list is so random. The very first song I put on the list is an example of them, I put it first so you can skip it if you want to. So in the interest of full disclosure, and transparency, here's the list of songs in my actual cleaning playlist, yes, it's long! I play it on random:

MP3 Player Meme - For Monique

For Monique:

Disclaimer: Yes, it is my MP3 player, but the player is loaded with songs from our music collections that Paul would be able to handle. I last changed it before we went to Mayo in Rochester in January. So it is definitely NOT loaded with my normal array of songs. Hence the duplication of artists, it is heavy on Clapton, R.E.M. and the more classic rock type songs, with a small folder of 80's. When I met Paul we had only 1 CD in common...

He had all Country and some (very little) Rock
Mine is all Punk, Industrial, Alternative, 80's, Female Vocals, and some (very little) College Rock.

I was tempted to wipe it and put my normal array on there, but figured that's kinda cheating! And I don't cheat... Nope nope nope...

Soundtrack to my Life

I never did finish this "project", there are so many great songs. All I could do is narrow it down to a handful of songs that would have to be included, for one reason or another. My intent was to come up with a soundtrack of 15, but depending on my mood on any given day that I thought about this I would replace half the songs. These were the constants.

Pipkins - Gimmee Dat Ding
Simple Minds - Don't You Forget About Me
The Cure - Friday, I'm In Love
Depeche Mode - Somebody
Modern English - Melt With You
The Pixies - Gigantic
Holly Cole Trio - Onion Girl
Leigh Nash - Charmed Life

Mixtapes...

One of the blogs that I read had a post recently referring to mixtapes. Which reminded me of a challenge, per se, that my sister put forth about a month ago. A friend of hers issued the challenge of creating a soundtrack to her life. My sister sent me her mixtape song choice compilation a few days after telling me about it. I've mulled it over off and on for about a month now and have chosen a few must have favorites. However, I still have quite a bit to choose. Mixtapes that go beyond a specific mood are always such a process for me.

So I'm just a bit curious now, what songs would you include as must have's on your life's soundtrack? Which approach would you take, a birth to current list of favorites? or songs that illustrate what you've gone through in life? pick favorite artists and find appropriate songs to fit, even if they aren't song favorites? or an entirely different approach?

I've got about half of my songs chosen, and I've been working on the rest this weekend. I'll post it when I have it done.
