Just a Girl

How do you answer the question "Who are you?" How do you define yourself? By your job? By what others call you? As adults I think a lot of us tend to forget that we still have the kid inside us that just wants to go knock on our neighbors door to see if they are up for a game of hopscotch or jump rope.

I am a working woman with a secret life: I keep house.
- Cheryl Mendelson, author of Home Comforts: The Art and Science of Keeping House

I try... I really do. For a while this was somewhat of a mantra for me, not because I was there, but because it was where I aspired to be. However, I still try to organize and declutter to make life in general more pleasant, but some things are more important than a clean organized house.

I have a new philosophy in life...

Origin of Candy Hearts and Paper Flowers

One of my favorite movies as a child was Raggedy Ann & Andy: A Musical Adventure and one of the songs in the movie was Candy Hearts and Paper Flowers.

Candy hearts and paper flowers
sunshine days and skies of blue
rhymes and songs we sing forever
words to say I love you true

Times get bad and then I worry
how we'll ever see it through
but candy hearts and paper flowers
will always keep me close to you

Lyrics by Joe Raposo

Blogging Impetus

I have blogged in several places and have always been very topical in my writing, but I wanted a place where I could combine it all and just write about anything and everything. Well almost everything. I spend all day long doing the tech thing, and most people’s eyes glaze over when I talk about that. So I’m indulging in my other passions here: décor, design, baking, cooking, painting, home projects, quotes, reading, kids, adoption, hockey, music, movies, etc. You’ll notice photography isn’t one of those passions, so please be tolerant if I post a series of photos with my thumb in the corner. Though I am working on it.

For years I've been collecting resources for the day that I would eventually have children, so I will share what I have.

I am keeping Kitchen Comforts, because frankly the thought of trying to move all the recipes over was daunting! I have links to the most recent entries in my right sidebar.
